Altiro

Altiro is the first place that will be blogged about on the return of the Mysterious Diner. This restaurant is Mexican restaurant and is one of Geneva’s three places that I would educe (think) of as the best Mexican food holders. It is quite interesting how Geneva of all places has become one of the best Mexican food hot spots in the whole midwest. Anyway on to the meal, the food is set up to be ordered up almost in courses with where you will order one or two small dishes here and there until you are to the point  where you can almost not move because the food is so good. But in any of these restaurants, try not to turn out like the Dame of Fayel who was served something that she claimed was the most amazing delectable thing that she ever ate. She went to bed that night and woke up claiming that nothing that she will ever eat will be anywhere like that ever again. So in the name of all taking things a step (or in her case several dozen) to far the decided that she would never eat again, and yes when I said never she never ate ever again (seems like a little overreactive now doesn’t it?) So the meal starts with a plate of house made chips and you can order guacamole with fruit mixed into it. The type of fruit changes every day but my favorite was when there is mango. The interesting part of the restaurant is how the meals are set up witch I talked about earlier. First I order the attune which is tuna on a house made almost little saucer of a chip. The tuna has a delectable sause drizzled over it and is finished off with some herbs on the top of it. Another thing that I normally order is the corn although it has a fancier name. I know what you might be thinking now, why corn it is something that I should order, can’t I get that anywhere? I know that I sound crazy but what is interesting is that it is true. Every person that I have recommended that to looks at me like I am crazy then tries it and understands. I will try to explain it even though it might not come through well. So it is a base of roasted corn that is spread onto the plate. The corn is covered in a small amount of cheese and just the right amount of sour cream is spread outer it in a zigzagged line. Then the corn is tossed in a spice so it is seasoned with just the right kick. So this review of the corn that I just did might not be the best so please go to the restaurant so I don’t look as crazy as I do now because it is really worth it  There are many other meal opportunities such as the papas, which is fried potato sticks with two types of spices drizzled over the top of it which add the spicy factor. But just as a warning this dish is amazing but I would be careful if catchup is your flaming death hot sauce. Now with the meals that I have focused on and the numerous other dishes it may seem that younger children might have a harder time finding things that look good on the menu but is really isn’t. One thing that might be a problem solver is the quesadia there which is four small quesadias which can have chicken or beef added to it. Now I didn’t tell you this because it isn’t on the menu but it can be asked for if specially requested. I have stopped giving one through five star reviews because anything on this blog would be rated five star by any other blog. So thank you try to visit this amazing restaurant and spread the word about this blog.

Thank You,
Your loyal blogger

The Return of The Mysterious Diner

Hello I am the mysterious diner who is back now sorry about the lapse in time that there has been from my first intro to this one but I have been trying to find new places to write about. So, replenished with more topics I am back and ready for more, consider this post my return to the world of the blog. I am still focusing on where people should eat and where if they do they might keel over. Some rules will be changed like I would love for readers to give a star rating themselves. Also with things changing I am sorry if you might need a dictionary. I ended up getting a book of strange words which are longer than the ones that I was about to put down before I decided to make things more complicated. So sorry for any complications that the words on this gustatory blog brings. (By the way to save the traffic on dictionary.com that is pertaining to the sense of taste and before about thirty second ago I had no idea that a word like this ever existed.) But as I was saying before my little rant there was that there would be most of the same things to. I am keeping that I will only rate on smaller nicer chains or single restaurants or ones that only have a few partners. So basically McDonalds or Burger King will not ever be found on this blog, because the whole reason that this was made was to help people that might be out of town or just trying to find something new in a place where you have been before. So if you are driving right now and are starving then please look on any of the links on the side bar and you might find something near you. All restaurants on this sight are extremely good and I try not to blog about bad or so-so food. Thank you for checking back after this long of a break and I hope that you find something that will interest your taste buds on this site. One more thing I also try to rate restaurants that are nice but will not make your wallet have a nervous breakdown and start to run for the door. In other words you don’t need to start taking out a loan to eat at any of these restaurants but they are exceptionally good places to eat. I hope you enjoy and that was the end of my intro to the return of the Mysterious Diner! Good Luck in your quest for good food.

Lava Lava Beach Club

If you happen to end up in the big island if Hawaii I have a great restaurant for you to try called Lava Lava Beach Club. One of the great parts about being there is it’s location because it it is literally right on the property of A-Bay a great protected snorkeling cove which when I visited I loved partially because of it’s reef. So now let’s cut back to the food or for now more specifically drinks and appetizers. For drinks I would mainly recommend the Virgin Lava Flow which includes coconut strawberry puree and more. But when it comes to drinks I would recommend the pound of fries[ to split ] because A) they are some of the best fries I have ever had and because B) they have some very good spices and optional toppings including powdered ranch parmesan and the amazing little spice blend called volcano but be careful with it a little goes a long way. Now when it comes to main menus you might have to come here a lot because I have more than one thing to try. Ok so the first one is the fish and chips which are really good and made from ono a deep sea fish. Another one you have to try is the pineapple fried rice with fresh catch ono and pineapple it is good. My other thing to try is the fresh catch with mango pineapple salsa it is really good. So this place also owns 4 little houses open for rent right next to them at A-Bay so you might want to check those out too. Thanks for reading!

A Toda Madre - Mexican Restaurant

I never thought I was brave enough to try some of the things on this menu but I did and I loved them. a toda madre is a mexican restaurant and by far the best one I have eaten at. It is also a tapas restaurant which means that you don’t get one big meal instead you get a bunch of small meals for everyone to share with the other people that you are eating with. When you get your table here is what happens. First they give you some bread with an interesting butter that is ruddy and is peppery. After that you get to chose your drink I would recommend the limonada and then they give you some guacamole and home made chips. Later you start to order.  There is a link to there site at the bottom if you want to check the whole menu but here are some suggestions. My favorite is the mole because part of it is brought from mexico. Another recommendation is the arroz with plantains which is kind of like bananas. One of my other favorites is the albondigas. After that you get dessert where I would highly recommend the churros which are kind of like doughnuts but are 10 x better and have a really, really, really good passionfruit curd. Quote from my little brother “I would eat churros All day”.  The restaurant is also very cool with the air plants hanging in front of the window and the awesome light fixtures. This IS my favorite restaurant. You really should come here so here is the address and there website with the menu on it.

STEUBENS - Denver, CO

This is The Mysterious Diner's 3nd restaurant review from his recent visit to Denver, CO over Thanksgiving break ...

The third restaurant is called Steubens. Steubens is placed in a converted garage. They have a great appetizer there called Steubie Snacks. The Steubie Snacks are really deep fried pork covered in powdered sugar. For the drinks they have a great option called milk flight it has three mini glasses of milk choclate, strawberry, and vanilla all home made. My favorite part about it is it’s kids menu because it is so different than a normal menu. I mean I got salmon, edamame, and lots of fruits and veggies all from the kid menu. They are also said to have great cupcakes.

I'm giving Steubens 5 Stars.

SNOOZE - Denver, CO

This is The Mysterious Diner's 2nd restaurant review from his recent visit to Denver, CO over Thanksgiving break ...

The second place I went to there are two of and it is a breakfast place it is called SNOOZE. Now most breakfast places have the pancakes and waffles and eggs and if you are lucky they might have a blueberry pancake. So SNOOZE has stuff like that too but a little bit different  stuff like Bobbin For Pancakes which is buttermilk pancakes filled with caramelized apples which is topped with brown butter candied pecans and whipped cream. Or the Coffee and doughnuts pancakes which are circular and have maple icing and crushed nuts on top of them. Or you could have one of the other entries and don’t limit your self to only pancakes. There is also one other entry I would like to talk about and that is the pancake flight that is where you get to chose THREE!!! whole pancakes for breakfast.

I'm giving Snooze 5 stars.

TIPSY CUPCAKES - Denver, CO

This is The Mysterious Diner's 4th restaurant review from his recent visit to Denver, CO over Thanksgiving break ...

The last place on the Denver run is a cupcake place called Tipsy Cupcakes in the Northfield shopping area. It is across the street from HOOT AND HOWL. It has lots of great cupcakes like the candy of marshmallow one. And it is a small and family owned place so make sure to support it.

I'm giving Tipsy Cupcakes 5 Stars.
